South Carolina Lakes Region Weather

Weather plays a large factor in the appeal of our South Carolina Lakes Region. We have four distinct seasons, each with its own allure. Spring begins in late February. Dazzling displays of color and beauty are found in tulips, daffodils, native dogwood, wild and cultivated azaleas, rhododendrons, mountain laurel, and more. By April, the lakes' waters are warm enough for swimming.

Summers are generally mild with comfortable humidity. Lake activities abound - fishing, swimming, water-skiing, and boating. Many flower species delight the senses, including the long-blooming crepe myrtle.

Autumn offers spectacular vistas and sights, with a gorgeous change of foliage. The weather is still warm enough for short sleeve shirts and even a dip in a lake.

Winter is short and mild. Snow is a rarity and disappears rapidly. Trees and shrubs show off their flower blooms and pansies delight us throughout the season. Outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, hiking, tennis, and golfing can be enjoyed most days. Sunshine is abundant throughout all seasons.

  • The Upstate South Carolina region's year round weather is quite tranquil, as evidenced by the FEMA disaster declarations map above. You will note that Upcountry South Carolina has had minimal weather disaster declarations over the past forty plus years, unlike the vast majority of the East and Midwest U.S. This clear weather history bodes well for local citizens in cost of living savings and worry-free life styles.

The Blue Ridge/Appalachian Mountains range act as a barrier to keep more aggressive weather out of the South Carolina Upstate. Westerly winds are diminished and colder winter temperatures are blocked west of the mountains.

The weather, indeed, is serene. South Carolina enjoys over 220 days per year of sunny skies. All this wonderful weather adds greatly to the South Carolina appeal and easy living.
